Summer St Louis Speaker Road Trip
This was a real quick trip. Left Little Rock at the crack of dawn. Pulled into downtown Memphis for a quick breakfast.
It was really cool to see a recording academy not far from where we ate. I pray they are teaching the evils of compressing the sound to only sound good on clock radios. Evil I say pure EVIL.
Heading out of town we encountered a massive thunderstorm. If you live in the south you know how cool this is. I even opened the sunroof for a minute.
Thank you Terrence in St.Louis for contacting me through this blog and selling me an RCA 515S2 with cabinet. This was the main reason for the road trip but it is nice to get out of town. Now I have two of these pre *edit 515S2 was after LC1 o at the same time* LC1 drivers.
The cabinet is a homemade Klipsch rebel style cabinet. Although this cabinet is 3/4 birch plywood instead of the thinner plywood Klipsch used. The slot in the back is also much wider than the traditional rebel cabinet.

The 515S2 is in perfect condition. I can't wait to do some measuring so I can compare it to the 515S2 I repaired. I'll post the results.
I drop by a thrift store in St Louis and found a great Cab Calloway record. Given that it was released in 1950 and has all his big hits it is a miracle it is in as good condition as it is. There is some surface noise but I love it.
The cover is basic but it is the earliest LP of Cab I have seen. I have some Cab Calloway 78's but nothing this cool.
No trip to St.Louis is complete without a visit to Vintage Vinyl. The prices are incredible as is the selection. It was a quick trip through the store so I only picked up a few goodies. I was looking for Stockhausen on vinyl but they were out. Fortunately the staff is very knowledgeable and seemed to remember that Max Neuhaus played with Stockhausen and they had one of his records in. I just put it on for a second but it sounds like Stockhausen percussion....AWESOME!!!!
I also picked up a copy of STUMP's Fierce Pancake... It was $6 I couldn't leave it there at that price.
That was a long quick trip but scored cool records and a mint 515S2.
