Intact Audio New Autoformer Volume Controls Landed

I've used a few versions of the autoformer volume controls from Intact Audio so I was excited when a new version sorry versions were announced last month. I have a couple projects in the works but these are going into my Brook clones. The build quality on these are great.

The basic building block of the family is a compact 23 step autoformer that measures 2.4" X 1.6" and is 1.8" deep. They can have any taper desired and the stadard version comes with the following dB steps. (0, -3, -6, -9, -12, -14, -16, -18, -20, -22, -24, -26, -28, -30, -32, -34, -36, -39, -42, -45, -48, -52 and Mute)

Thank you Intact Audio!

One of my fave surf type bands. I guess they are surf goth? It doesn't hurt that Zombierella on bass looks like Betie Page.

Intact Audio New Autoformers Now Available

I am a big fan of autoformer volume controls and have been listening to the ones from Intact Audio for many years. Screw pots is all I gotta say.  Dave Slagle's AVC products are available in many configurations and also custom work is available.
What do you want from an autoformer? I can safely say you can find it at Intact Audio. Lets look at a few of what is available today.
The top of the line is a 47 position stereo attenuator that goes seamlessly from +5dB to -51.25dB in 47 1.25dB steps. This stereo unit can also be wired as a mono balanced unit. It is also available in silver if that is your fetish.
I know I'll be picking up one of these at some point for a DHT preamp. Two of the 23 position autoformers are placed on a single board with a "penalty free" balance control between them. Each autoformer step is 2.5dB and the balance control allows for a 1.25dB shift to the left or right. Maximum attenuation is 52.5dB.

This is what I'll be installing in my Brook 12A monoblocks I'm working on. This is a compact 23 step autoformer. I'm going with the stock attenuation with the following steps 0, -3, -6, -9, -12, -14, -16, -18, -20, -22, -24, -26, -28, -30, -32, -34, -36, -39, -42, -45, -48, -52 and Mute. Since this is Intact Audio Dave will wind any taper desired

Compactrons Advance In Tube Design

I started researching Compactrons after reading a few articles by Thomas Mayer posted on Vinyl Savor. I stumbled upon this article the other night and thought I would share. I found a triple triode compactron that looks like fun.

RIP William Onyeabor - Fantastic Man

One of my favorite Nigerian musicians.

I am so glad David Byrne reissued most of his catalogue because it is some of the most exciting music I have heard in a long time. David Byrne wrote a great piece on his blog at  http://davidbyrne.com/journal/rip-william-onyeabor.

Klipsch Forte III Heritage Rides Again

I grew up on high efficiency Klipsch speakers. The big Klipsch were always around and since then I've always gravitated to highly efficient low distortion speakers. No bigger bang for the buck than Klipsch heritage. It is so great to see Klipsch digging into the heritage history and bringing back a great speaker like the Forte. I am hoping the Chorus is next. These speakers are handmade in Hope, Ar. How many speaker companies can still say that? Bravo Klipsch.

Beautiful retro design.

Klipsch designer Roy Delgado took this tractrix mid horn design from the cinema line which is very successful. It is also where the big fun speakers are.
