Panasonic RS-296US

The Panasonic RS-296 is a cool cassette deck. This might be my first cassette deck post. I always thought this was a weird turntable from looking at the ads but imagine my surprise when I realized it ws a tape deck lol...

After Class - Gas Filled Diodes - 1956

I love the glow of voltage regulation tubes or gas filled diodes.

Heron Record Cleaning Machine

I received an email from Stephan a few weeks ago about their startup and record cleaning machine project. The images that followed were stunning. While this RCM looks amazing the most important feature in my opinion is that it is silent in operation so you can listen and clean records at the same time.

I'll let the imges speak to the quality of their design. Check out their webpage and kickstarter.

YL Acoustics Carib Loudspeker

One of my favorite speakers I've never heard. I've seen the drivers firsthand but not a complete system. Their build quality is top notch. I like that they put the biggest mid range horn they could cram in a box this size. I'd have to bypass the L-Pads though 8-).

Give Your Pickup A Chance - Vintage DIY

All we are saying is give your pickup a chance lol... Between that corny line and the Neil Diamond post this site is heading to oblivion. Actually other than the old horn articles the tonearm and pickup articles are really cool and helpful. Good stuff.

WTF Neil Diamond - I AM THE LION 1970

This song was from a very experimental album Tap Root Manuscript by Neil Diamond in 1970 featuring African sounds  instruments. This predates Paul Simon's Graceland and Byrne and Eno's Bush Of Ghosts. The song I Am The Lion was presented to me as one of the worst songs ever. I laughed so hard I was crying but now I can't get this freaking song out of my head. IT IS STUCK. I don't have a verdict on this song except to say on a bad day this makes me smile. I wonder what the reaction to this album was as people were expecting more songs like Kentucky Women.

PWK Concertone Reel To Reel Ad 1955

You don't see many PWK endorsements but here he is with his portable Concertone R2R. I've seen PWK's travel log and he was tearing up the sky with his portable rig visiting dealers across the US.

A Horn Type Transducer Of Minimum Dimensions

Ok by minimum dimensions they mean small.. This article is courtesy of Audio Research Labs from 1949. It looks like a reworked Lowther / Voigt horn.

The Fisher SA-300

I've always like The Fisher gear. The SA-300 was a beastie of an EL34 amplifier with massive transformers and two gz34 tubes in the power supply.

Electro-Voice Centurion IV

A cool ad announcing the Centurion IV. The last time I flew to Austin there was a pair of these in a shop for $200. It killed me to leave them there but I did send the message to my Austinite friends.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Don't Come Around Here No More

One of my favorites. This was written by Dave Stewart for Tom Petty. Dave plays the opium smoking caterpillar.

1957 - Multiple Speakers For Very Best In Hi-Fi

Woah! That is a classic cover that could only have come from the mid 1950's. That being said I hate the upgrade path but sometimes you gotta do what the wallet can do...
