Wheel Fi - The Handmade Life

Here is an article featuring our friends at Wheel Fi in the New York Freaking Times

This speaker appears to be a new addition to the Wheel Fi family and would love to know more about it. I hope they post something soon. The amplifier on the floor is small but sounds great. I heard it on their Western Electric 16a system playing some Louis Armstrong and it sounded beautiful.

If you look at the driver on the horn you can see what these guys have been up to.Very interesting.

Loud Speaker For Auditory Perspective By Thuras

The Fletcher system was the father of the Shearer sound system and all those to come. I've posted about this before but now I wonder if this system survived? Does anyone know if this most important piece of audio history still exists? I pray it is out there somewhere. The construction is amazing. How big is the compression driver on the bass bins? It never ceases to amaze me.
The New York Times reported that "Sound Waves 'Rock' Carnegie Hall As Enhanced Music Is Played" and "The loudest sounds ever created crashed and echoed through venerable Carnegie Hall last night as a specially invited audience listened, spellbound, and at times not a little terrified."

Here is the article on the Loudspeaker Article by Thuras.

$25 Of Fun Tester Of China

I ordered this weird little device from China because I am lazy. I tired of  looking at resistors and being too lazy to read the tiny print so I just pop them into this thing and hit test.

This one appears to show some hieroglyphics.

Greeen LED.

 It also test caps.

Weird values but oh well guess I'll have to order another device to convert LOL.....

1954 Home-Built Loudspeaker Enclosure

This is a University designed DIY loudspeaker. Today we would certainly add a tweeter. Even in the 50's you could add a Jensen RP302 super tweeter.

Boat Anchor or High Voltage Power Supply SCORE!

I had been lamenting the lack of any interesting scores locally and then a lot of vintage electronics showed up on craigslist. I was about 13 days late so I missed some tubes and another power supply. This isn't too bad for left overs.
I'm sure my friend Chris will say it is missing some meters and he would be right.
This unit is very heavy. It has a huge power transformers and two really nice Kenyon chokes. The capacitors are a good size as well. I thought the tubes were 866 but they are in fact 836 which should be swap-able.
