1961 Laboratory Report On Integrated Stereo Amplifiers Part 2

  1. The great thing about old tube power amps is that there is not much in them, aside from the output transformers you can't buy new. Integrateds are full of rotary switches and odd pots you can't replace. Also, most of them use the crappy tubes no longer made or hard to find. So sticking with the pure power amps is a better deal for most people.

    Also, while old tube power amps are usually comparable to modern ones when upgraded, the pre sections aren't. Few old preamps are as good as even the eighties ARC and cj designs.
