Braun - Less, But Better - PS-600 Turntable

Dieter Rams designed this turntable. If you don't know Dieter Rams just give him a goog. He heavily inspired Steve Jobs and the Apple design teams. Dieter Rams mantra is Less, But Better.
Hey check that out.... An idler wheel 8-)

The table suspension is interesting. I has a hydraulic pods it sits on. They are oil filled with rubber boots on top. Very interesting.
It is strange using an automatic turntable after so many years with the 301.
Simple nice design.
I didn't show the plinth because it is just wood. I'm going to refinish it in flat black and it will look much better.

Everyday Is Record Store Day

Pick up some vinyl around the corner from my house today.
Well Stacey bought them for me 8-)
I've wanted this Congo Man record by Sparrow ever since Byron played it for me. Brilliant Calypso.
I've never purchased a bad Hugh Masekela record and couldn't resist an album called Techno Bush.
Also picked up a couple Moog records. These are classics.

Picked this one up for the cover. Hope it doesn't suck.

Mickey Hart - Global Drum Project

I'm not a Greatful Dead fan. Just never got it although I did like the atmosphere. Now I am a huge Mickey Hart fan. When he records an album the percussion is perfectly recorded. If his name is first on an album just buy it!
I ran across this Global Drum Project on the youtube and it looks and sounds great.

Stancor Ultra-Linear Hi-Fi Amplifier

A good guide for building an Ultra Linear amplifier utilizing Stancor transformer A-8072. I like the fact that they include schematic and propose a layout that is easy to follow. Good for newbies like me.

45 145 245 345 445 Tubes

My friend the TubeHoarder found a big box of 45 tubes for me to try in my amp. Not sure of the condition but I don't often get to roll through a dozen gobes and then a dozen coke bottles.

Engraved base de Forest Audio 445... Beautiful.

Engraved base Arcturus Power Amplifier 145.

 Engraved base Cunningham CX 345.
A good pic on this one.

 Engraved base ECHOTRON. Great name.
It is strange that the filament is resting on the grid in this one.

It was really difficult to get a pic of the Majestic engraved base.

Haven't found any info on this engraved base Marvin MX 245.

Another Engraved Base RCA Radiotron 45

Another RCA Radiotron UX 245 Engraved Base

National Union Coke Bottles with engraved  base. Very cool.

Out of the engraved bases now. Here is a selection of RCA coke bottle 45s.

Do vintage tubes sound better than modern? I don't know for sure.
Which do you prefer?
I get a kick out of running antique tubes. There is something special about listening to music through  old triodes. Listening to history. It doesn't hurt that the tubes look beautiful as well.

Gray Research 108-B 106-SP Tonearms

Gray Research tonearms and equalizer ad.
Gray in action on a 401.
I've always wanted to run one of these old Gray's.

Jensen High Fidelity Loudspeaker Line

From the Unax to the Triax Jensen ad. The Jensen marketing machine sure had fun with names like Unax, Duax, Coaxial and Triaxial speaker offerings. Of course vintage Jensen ends at the G610.
I wish I could still get the free data sheet.
