Ton And A AQuarter Of Sound - Audio 1964

This system looks like many modern DIY efforts but this one is made of concrete. How the hell do you move this? Position for sweet spot? Woah... Still really nice article from Audio one of my favorites.

Brook Electronics Let Your Ears Pass Judgement

Another early Brook Electronics ad. I've found a few more of these while researching the 12A. I hope to do a 12A clone this year.

NEC 50CA10 Triode

The 50CA10 is a triode tube built for Luxman by NEC. It doesn't get much mention because originals are very rare. Fortunately Shuguang has started producing them again so I don't have to panic. I've been waiting for Thomas Mayer over at Vinyl Savor to write about them because I do not have very much information on them and his write ups are great. Don't expect any tube dissections here.
There are only  two amplifiers that I have found that actually used this tube. One of them is the Luxman MQ60 which is a 30WPC Push Pull amp . Now that the Shuguang is manufacturing these tubes again I've seen several DIY amplifiers use them in SET and Push Pull amplifiers.
Here are the well used and loved 50CA10s my Lux MQ60 uses. They will need to be replaced soon I'm sure.
Here is a pic of the replacement option from Shuguang via Leisure Audio.
And the not in English Datasheets.
Yes that is 50v .175a heaters.

1930's Knight Tube PA Amplifiers Ad

I didn't realize Knight was operating in the 30's. These are for PA systems of the day and were operating at higher wattage into Class B.

Brook Electronics - All Triodes

Yet another Brook Electronics ad. Good marketing towards the triode crowd. I would love to get my hands on the Brook booklet "Better Listening".

Squeel Like A Tube

Now that I have my tube amp stable and sounding great I thought I'd indulge in some tube rolling.
Well I pop in this sold to me on ebay as NOS Hytron CBS branded tube... The sporadic sound can only be described as 1,000 fingernails down a chalkboard while 10,000 eagles screeched at their prey. I snapped this photo right before that noise happened. I must have jumped pretty high. Since this was not a success I put the RCA or Sylvania back in and  all was well with the world again.
Such a pretty tube..
Such scary noises.

Bass Horns - BIG AND LOW - 1989

This article was released on the heels of Bruce Edgars Voigt article and PWK interview. I have great appreciation for Bruce Edgars early work. This article by Brian Taylor is rather recent for what I usually post.
I really like the unfolded Klipschorn pic. Amazing that this was folded into something so small as the Klipschorn bass bin.

PWK And Jim Build The BIG Foam Horn

Jim Hunter Klipsch engineer and historian posted this great pic on the Klipsch site. Not sure what is going on here but that is a big plywood and foam horn. I'd like to see a better pic and get more of the story.
Jim and Hunter are rather tall guy's so this horn should be large 6ft-8ft x 6ft-8ft. I'd like to see more of these experimental fun horns they built.

Stephens Tru-Sonic Coaxial Corner Horn

Stephens 106AX coaxial in a 418 corner cabinet. I dig their metal grill in front of the grill cloth and the cabinet is reall nice.
An example. Not very many pics on the electric internet.

Moondog - Upstate New York Magazine 1970

This is a great article about Moondog. There are several pictures in this article I have never seen of him. I had no idea that he lived like this in the hills of NY. Just unbelievable that a national treasure lived like this... WTF.
