YL Audio

I've never seen a YL speaker in the states. This is one I would love to hear.
If anyone has additional info on  YL speakers I love to see more.

A rare ad courtesy of the Asylum. Thanks

Pokey LaFarge

The owners of South On Main were kind enough to give Stacey and I the last two tickets to see Pokey LaFarge. It was one of the best shows I have seen in a very long time. Pokey sounded like he walked out of a stack of southern 78's. His voice is just amazing and showed his interest in musical history. The live performance is so much better than their records but still so good. Thank you South On Main for the tickets and amazing show. If you see Pokey LaFarge playing in town just go see it and you are into Bob Wills, Hank Sr, Old Timey 78's, and rockabilly you must check them out.

Garrard 301 Plinth Building Part 3

I have modified the original idea of a full veneer or full British racing green plinth. The new plan is BRG top with walnut veneer for the sides.
The inspiration is the 60's Jaguar E Type which is as iconic of Britain to the car world as the Garrard 301 is iconic of Britain to the audio world.
This is the third coat of paint the final two layers will be sprayed. I think I did 6 coats with sanding in between.

This is the final coat awaiting sanding and painting.
I like the walnut natural as I did try dark stains but I like the transition between dark and light.

Here are the thin veneer sheets I will be choosing between.
My friend Kenny talked me into veneering. The sheets are wavy so they will have to be soaked in veneer tamer softener and pressed for a few days. Then we will coat the backs with heat lock and also the sides of the plinth. Fortunately another friend Tim B is going to help apply the veneer. Once we get the veneer on Tim B is going to help trim the veneer and spray a couple layers of clear coat. I'm excited the way this is moving along. It will be nice to get one more project completed.

Audio Cartoon - The CAT

I know the feeling. When I first got into Moondog I could only find the same records over and over..

Retro Hi-Fi Girl Friday

These photos were taken by Man Ray who apparently had an interesting way of storing his 78's.

Fairchild 260 and 280

Fairchild are rarely seen in the wild.
I would be excited to find an amp or tonearm.

Eimac KY 21

Doubt I'll ever need this tube but it is beautiful. This is an Eimac Mercury Rectifier with grid control. Beautiful industrial art.

M.I.A. - Sunshowers

This was the first video from M.I.A. It is cool to see how far she has come and she still doesn't disappoint. Nice pop song.
It took me forever to find an HD version.

Wheel Fi Launches With Limited Edtion Complete Horn System

I knew Jeffrey Jackson had been quiet for a while.. As they say in the films tooo quiet. After my visit early last year I knew many things were afoot. When I got the message last week about the company Wheel Fi I was very excited. This time they are offering complete tube and horn systems.

Check out Wheel-Fi
Wheel Fi is: Jeffrey Jackson, Robert Kalin and Christoph Vilaghy. These men have brought together some of the finest materials, tools, and equipment available. From the looks of the final product they have also assembled the finest craftsman available as well.

Black walnut is cut with ultra precision.

For me cutting metal is a messy gnarly job but Wheel Fi slices through it as though it were butter.
No big deal just some precision cut brass....

Jeffrey Jackson at work.
Custom field coils....

Christoph Vilaghy at work on the baffles and petal horns.

Six available limited edition complete horn systems.

Pascal Perich created this fine film for Wheel Fi. I have watched it countless times already and even frame by frame. Top notch work.

Congratulations Wheel Fi I can't wait to hear your system.

Susan Cadogan - Hurt So Good 1975

It is hard to find footage of Susan Cadogan.  The camera man is more interested in filming bad angles and hardly focuses on her. I'd like to kick the camera guys square in the nuts. Sorry I'll calm down... Anyway classic song produced by Lee Scratch Perry. He lists it among his favorite songs.

Western Electric 15 Horn Study

I really appreciate the study of the Western Electric 15. I wish I had the skills to attempt a replica.

If anyone has higher resolution images of the study please contact me.

Beautiful industrial art.
