Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla

It is fun to find a celebration of Tesla on his birthday. This time in Little Rock. They made the world record musical bi-pole Tesla coil.
That is two miles of magnet wire wound into two nice coils. Even Slagle would be impressed.
I have to say even though it is good for educational presentation ... I HATE ACRYLIC.... It is the stuff of the dark side.... It just says cheesy cheap to me.....

 I hope these videos play...

No Kraftwerk or softcell.....

Autopsy Of A Drowned Shrimp

It doesn't get much more fun than this... I'm glad that this band is becoming more successful. Perhaps they will play SXSW or even better PsychFest.

The Eimac 304TL

Last weekend my friend Chris brought buy some parts for our 211 project but he also brought these by to show me. The EIMAC 304TL is so well made. I was surprised at the thickness of the glass.
This blog used to have better photography. I'm going to have to quit using my iPhone and get a proper camera.
And a 450TL thrown in for good measure.
Hmm... What do three 211's and one 304TL have in common?

History of Tuning Indicators: meters, graphs, Magic Eye, LED

I was doing some research into old meters and found the pic of this amazing radio the 7-Tube-Piano-Type". It featured Separate Voltmeters and Milliamp-meters on a Ducretet radio. The article it is mentioned in is very good and titled simply History of Tuning Indicators: meters, graphs, Magic Eye, LED.

More about this radio here.
The Radio Museum is a great resource if you haven't stumbled upon it check it out here .

Vitavox Multicell & Klipsch Basshorn

I spent a Sunday afternoon with my good friend Chris and the Tubehoarder. What we have here is the a Klipschorn Bass Horn for the low frequency. The mids and highs are being covered by a very large 10 cell Vitavox horn with a TAD 4001 driver.
Sorry I don't have very good pics as they are so big they suck in the light lol..
In case you are wondering about the wood grain that is the rare Persian Nut Wood.
This is the rigging for a prelim listening session but it looks great.
Just the right size.
Each section was powered by a George Wright 2A3 amp. The crossover I built with parts and plans given to me by Chris.

If I could pick a song and video that suits the brilliant Johnny Lydon it is RISE.

Unusual Tube Death

This is from my friend JC's tube amp. He is the guy who built my Jubilee, SnailTrac bass horns, and has also sent me cool horn stuff to play around with. He said he was listening to music when there was a horrible noise and a fuse blew. I've never seen this type of tube failure before. Which went first the glass or the fuse? How could this happen? Opinions welcome.

On of the best looking vintage amplifiers made the MC30. I owned a pair for several years. They came from Terry DeWick. DeWick is One of the best in the business if your looking for vintage MC.

YL Acoustic Fully Horn Loaded Goodness

The YL Acoustic horn systems always look great. The oval shape horns are interesting. I believe Fast Lane Audio makes a similar horn complete or as a kit.

Custom Four Way Horn System

This four way horn system made an appearance on craigslist of all places. The price was under $20K. The custom horns look great and drivers are JBL and TAD.  I wish I had better pics as craigslist scales them down.

Senor Coconut -Da DaDa

Leave it to Senor Coconut to fix a song that drives me crazy. It starting to get hot here in the south perhaps my brain is cooking. I think this video is fun.. There are tiki drinks, perez prado samples and even devil girls.. Would have been a nice touch to have more dancing monkeys.

If you like this you must find his Kraftwerk album...

A Horn For 78RPM

This is extreme dedication to the 78.
78 RPM Transcription System Unlike other companies who tend to use modern electric pick ups to transfer their records we prefer to play our 78s using an acoustic horn gramophone.  In doing this we produce a warm, vibrant and extremely lifelike sound which requires very little processing (only the worst clicks are removed) before issue.  In fact the only 'electric' part of the whole playback process is the Technics SL-15 turntable which is used to ensure that the record is running at the correct speed.

If anyone has additional information please let me know.
