The Scariest All Hallows' Eve Post - DIE ANTWOORD

In the spirit of Halloween I bring you Die Antwoord from South Africa. The weirdest scariest strangest thing I have encountered in a long time. Scarier than Jeffrey and Dave deciding to do high powered solid state gear for highly efficient horns. I've been studying these guys for a while and they are not what they appear to be. Shock rockers ain't got noth'n on Die Antwoord.

Die Antwoord's musical and visual style incorporates elements of zef culture, described as modern and trashy, appropriating out-of-date, discarded cultural elements. Yo-Landi said, "It's associated with people who soup their cars up and rock gold and shit. Zef is, you're poor but you're fancy. You're poor but you're sexy, you've got style." Their lyrics are performed in Afrikaans, Xhosa, and English.

The Surgeon Gerneral's Warning: The videos listed below may be considered disturbing at best. The lyrics and imagery can be explicit at times.

Something to offend everyone.

The videos are in no specific order.

Fatty Boom Boom
Lady GaGa invited them to tour with her and this was her response

Enter The Ninja

Baby's On Fire

Evil Boy
Produced by director of District 9

Zef Side
If there was an intro for this band this is it.

Rich Bitch

I Fink You Freeky
Flea makes an appearence

Cookie Thumper
This video was written for the record label they had just signed to but the label wanted them to tone it down abit and try to do a more mainstream album. They requested that they not use such bad language. I'm thinking that wasn't the correct approach.

If you made it through all these videos.....
Please post your thoughts in the comments section.

Honestly I still don't know what to think of these guys. They crack me up and at the same time make me thing WTF.

Happy All Hallows' Eve

RIP Lou Reed - Velvet Underground - Venus In Furs

RIP Lou Reed
Velvet Underground could only have come out of New York of the 60's 70's. This is my favorite Velvet Undergound song.
Shiny 8-)

1957 JBL Paragon

They won't make them like this again. From the glory days of HiFi. I am more interested in the amazing design than I am in the sound. This thing had to be a beastie to design and put together. These pics are of a sale from last year.

Fairchild 225

The Fairchild amps are pretty rare. I've only seen one in person.

Hey RMAF attendees stop by the EMIA room. It looks superb again this year. What a great combo 50 SET and RCA LC1A. Wish I could be there but since I can't tell Dave I said hello.
Pics are from early show reporting on audio shark.

Retro Hi-Fi Girl Friday

Great model and a Jensen G610.
Thanks John

Nina Simone - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood Live

In a thrift store in a very small town in NW Arkansas I found a stash of vintage Nina Simone records. I'd never really listened to Nina but knew her by reputation. When I found her version of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood I was amazed. I found this clip of it live in Paris.

Goodmans 3-Way Speaker System

I've never seen Goodmans in person but the ARU components look pretty cool. The enclosure is simple with a hint at MCM style.

George Wright Paid Us A Visit

My friend The Tube Hoarder is now the Amp Hoarder. Fortunately for me he brought over part of  his collection of George Wright gear to the house for the weekend.
That is a lot of Wright gear. In addition I already owned the AG Phono of George's so at least I had one piece to contribute.
The signature series AU-1500 dual chassis preamp.
The AU-1000 Preamp was a beautifully built piece of gear.
The four monoblocks were the WPA 3.5 Monoblocks.
The SET amps are perfect for high efficiency horns. They didn't miss a beat on my Jubilees.
We listened to George Wrights gear Friday night and most of Saturday going well into the evening.

Thank you Tube Hoarder and George Wright.

Early Western Electric Turntable

When we look at turntables today they are very precise and delicate. This early WE turntable shows just how rugged they were built in the early days. Look at what he is in the shadow of..... Wow.

Frazier 1970's Adverts

I've been going through some audio magazines from the 70's. Their isn't much of interest to me in thes 70's except products rolling over from the 60's. More on that later but I did find a couple really cool Frazier ads. I'd love to find a big ole Frazier bass horn speaker some day. Given that he was located in Dallas this isn't an impossibility.
