1938 ANS Russian Synth That Bridged Electronic Music And The Occult

This is retro weird from Russia 1938. Thanks for sending me this one Byron.
You don't play the ANS synthesizer with a keyboard. Instead you etch images onto glass sheets covered in black putty and feed them into a machine that shines light through the etchings, trigging a wide range of tones. Etchings made low on the sheets make low tones. High etchings make high tones. The sound is generated in real-time and the tempo depends on how fast you insert the sheets.
This is a really cool article on this rediscovered artifact of the Russian Avant Garde movement of 1938. Superb.

A guy plays the ANS.

Steampunk Headphone System

The craftsmanship in the steampunk community is really high. I wish the old cyberpunk movement had this momentum.

Give A Women A Horn And She'll Mount It On Her Bicycle

This is really cool it looks like she took her creations to Burning Man Festival. These works currently reside in an art gallery in Austin. I hope to find them before I get there in September.

Klipsch KP-650

I found these early Klipsch KP-650 brochures. Not sure what the story is on them but they look like a mock up. I've actually heard the modular KP650 and it is very good. I was surprised at how hifi they sounded for pro speakers. Would be a fun pair of speakers for the living room. WAF meter would be pegged.

Gnod's World Of Music and Music Map

Music Map has been one of my favorite sites for years. The site looks unsophisticated but don't let the lack of bling fool you jump in and check it out. Great place to find new music or music similar to an artist you are interested in.

Excerpt from the site.
Welcome to Gnod's world of music...
Even if you don't know what you are looking for - gnod will find it.

Gnod is a self-adapting system that learns about the outer world by asking its visitors what they like and what they don't like. In this instance of gnod all is about music. Gnod is kind of a search engine for music you don't know about. It will ask you what music you like and then think about what you might like too. When I set gnod online its database was completely empty. Now it contains thousands of bands and quite some knowledge about who likes what. And gnod learns more every day. Enjoy :o)

Or you can just go straight to the map and type in artists to see what comes up. I tried Renaldo And The Loaf.
